FLUSHING COMPOST TOILETS (FCT)
Festiloo project extension
The Flushing Compost Toilet was developed towards the end of the Festiloo stall design, with a thought about what happens inside and about the ecosystem in which the Festiloo operates.
Compost toilet have been growing in their popularity in the past couple of years but even in the newest approaches the sawdust is kept in a separate box with its own shuffle ready to be manually sprinkled after every use.
FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION
The FCT contains a tank of sawdust instead of a water tank and it can be flushed by pressing the foot pedal which dispenses the relevant amount of sawdust.
It is designed with the thought of human habits: people know to flush again if it hasn't all flushed - same goes for the FCT - if the sawdust doesn't fully cover the manure - just flush again.
Following users indications that they wish for as little possible skin contact with the toilets surrounding the flush handle is transformed into a pedal as is common in some areas
The Flushing Compost Toilets take a familiar concept and make it more accessible and easy to use by taking into consideration user behaviors as well of the need to still familiarize users with this concept by revealing its inner structure.
